BATTLE OF THE BOOKS:
During the 2006-2007 school year, some of our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders read 24 books in order to participate in the "Battle of the Books" on March 28th, 2007. Similar to a spelling bee, the students who participated met at St. John's Lutheran School in Orange for the final "battle." We competed against 3 other schools by answering questions about the books. It was a lot of fun! They even wore new "Battle of the Books" t-shirts that were designed for the event. One of our teams, the "Book Beagles" even made it to the second round of questioning and came very close to going into the final round.

We are very proud of the efforts of all of the students who participated. We are also very proud of their conduct at the event. The librarian from St. John's complimented our students on their behavior and sportsmanship. Way to go!

New Library Dictionary Table:
As you walk through the library, please take a look at our new, beautiful, dictionary table. The table, a new large dictionary and new globe were donated in memory of Rev. Paul Kavasch from the Kavasch family memorial fund. The table and swivel dictionary stand were handmade for us by John Petsch. We thank Mrs. Kavasch and her family for the wonderful donation.

We also want to thank John Petsch for making our new bookcase for our "Battle of the Books" section of the library. The bookcase was made to match our other library furniture. The material for the bookcase was purchased with funds from our Scholastic Book Fair "07.

We are very proud of our wonderful library that is located in the center of our elementary school. All students, from grades K-8, are scheduled to use the library. They can check out books, check out Accelerated Reader books, read magazines, listen to a story tape, read the latest newspaper articles, and do research using our Encyclopedias and other resources.

At the beginning of 2003-2004 we were given a donation by the PTSL that came in handy to help us redecorate the library. We purchased baskets for our paperbacks, bean bag chairs, and colorful wire baskets to help us organize our Accelerated Reader books and the paperbacks on our book shelves. Thank you PTSL!

We were also given a donation by the PTSL to purchase several bookcases for our library. We recently put the bookcases into place. They are a wonderful addition. Our Accelerated Reader section of the library was growing and we needed more space for books.

Also, after the 2004 Fall Fundraiser we were given a generous gift from PTSL that enabled us to purchase 300 more Accelerated Reader book tests. The tests were loaded onto all the classroom computers so the students can take their tests after they read their Accelerated Reader books. Thank you again, PTSL.
